From 10 am, Jamaat leaders and activists from different areas of the city started moving towards Suhrawardy Udyan in separate processions. Many wore party symbols, banners and white ribbons, and came on motorcycles, rickshaws and on foot. Due to the rally, the police restricted traffic in some places, and bus traffic was completely stopped in some places. As a result, private cars, rickshaws, CNG, motorcycles and ambulances combined to create unbearable traffic jams on the roads.
The picture shows a large number of cars stuck on the road, with rickshaws and pedestrians crowding the road, bringing traffic to a standstill. Many office-goers, students and ordinary passengers suffered greatly. Many failed to reach their destinations on time.
Although traffic police and Jamaat volunteers were on duty in some areas to ease the traffic jam, it was very inadequate. Residents of the capital blamed the administration’s lack of prior preparation for this chaotic situation.
According to analysts, the authorities concerned need to ensure proper planning and alternative traffic management before organizing a major political rally in the capital, so that public suffering is reduced and normal life is not disrupted.
